Science 8-7 and 8-1: The converging and diverging lenses lab.  Students were expected to complete the lab, on their own.  It was not a formal lab write up.  It was a modified lab.  This lab is due by Friday.  All ray box equipment will be returned by Friday.

Science 8-7 and 8-1: A work block today to catch up on the worksheets 3.3 and 3.4.  They should expect a 3.3 and 3.4 quiz soon. Then we also previewed the lab that will be happening tomorrow, the refraction of light in diverging and converging lenses.

Math 8-7 and 8-1: The Triple M project is due LATEST on Thursday, December 16.  This project is instead of a unit test, so please ensure that it is complete, on time, and a true reflection/representation of your knowledge of Measures of Central Tendency.

Math 8-7 and 8-1: Marked the homework and shared our answers for number 3 for participation marks.  Then we started the Triple M, Measures of Central Tendency Project.  Most have collected the data and doing a better job to ensure that the data represents a proficient understanding of Mode, Median, and Mean.  The latest the projects will be accepted is December 16th.

Science 8-7: We did some notes on the behavior of light waves which include refraction.  Then we re-looked at my expectations for 3.3 and 3.4 worksheets.  The worksheets are due for Monday please.

Math 8-7 and 8-1: Marked the homework and shared our answers for number 6 for participation marks.  Then we did 7.2, median and range.  The worksheets are due for tomorrow.  The Triple M project will be handed out tomorrow.  This is in lieu of a unit test or quiz.

Math 8-7 and 8-1: I returned the tests today and spent quite a while reviewing the correct answers and some different paths to those answers. Then we took a look at mean (average) and mode (most), measures of central tendency. The worksheet, that is double sided, is due tomorrow for marking in class.

Science 8-7 and 8-1: Watched a Bill Nye Video on Optics and answered some worksheet questions and a mini quiz.  Then students were given time complete overdue and upcoming labs 10.2, 11.1, and 11.5 respectively.  As well, time to complete homework worksheets 3.3 and 3.4.  Students should expect a quiz on them soon.  I have decided that we will re-start journals in January, so, no journals for the month of December.

Science 8-7 and 8-1: We did the lab: 11.5, curved mirrors today.  There was plenty of time to do all the observations and to start answering the analysis questions.  They will need to do a bit of research for the analysis questions.  The formal lab write up is due on December 9

Math 8-1: I showed the test for the third time today, then we marked the pre-test worksheets to see what we could get help on, or help us understand for the test on Friday.  Then I gave them the rest of the block for a work block to study for math or finish formal lab write ups.

Math 8-7: 3.6 Procedural method on how to divide fractions.  Two methods: 1. multiply the reciprocal of the Divisor, and 2. Common denominator method Pages 139-140 #8, 9, 11, 12, 15 and try 17

Math 8-1: A review of 3.6, this time using the common denominator method to demonstrate abstractly with the number line.

Students attended an adapted Remembrance Day Assembly in our classrooms today at 10:30 am.  Please ask your student about it.  It was very well done and it included some students from both 8-7 and 8-1.

For the Week of November 1-5 (Happy Birthday Abby)

My apologies, I have been away for a while at meetings, a dentist appointment, and then a flu shot (of which I had some gross side effects this year!).  Anyhow, we are back on track now! I have been able to keep the same TTOC in for me, Mr. Kevin Smyth, a retired ROMS and STELLY’s Math, Science and PE teacher, so the students were in very good hands.

Math 8-1: We did a quick review of 3.1, 3.2, and 3.3 so that students will be ready for the unit test and the quiz.  I assigned a homework package, 3.3 as the priority to complete in preparation for the quiz on Friday.

Science 8-7 and 8-1:  We got a tad caught up with everything while I was away.  Journals: 3 entries are due for this week, Friday.  Some of the topics include a controversial topic (animal testing should be illegal?), representing a graph with years of post secondary education and salary, opinion (do pets relieve depression), and there is one with prefixes, which is larger/greater.  Worksheets 3.2 from the textbook are also due for the inbox.  These were assigned last week.  Then we completed the first part of WAVE notes, including definitions and types, which also include a cut and paste activity for our notebooks.  Students should expect a quiz soon.  As well, the pendulum lab will be due for tomorrow.

Science 8-1: I returned their Science Quizzes today, we went over it, then we looked at the second section, 3.2, using models to explain the Electromagnetic spectrum.  These worksheets will be due in a week.

Math 8-7 and 8-1: Unit Test on adding and subtracting fractions and mixed numbers.  There were a variety of different type of questions to assess more than just procedural knowledge.  It included word problems, explanations, vocabulary, and understanding of terms.  There were 5 people missing from both classes, therefore, tests will NOT be returned UNTIL the others have finished it.

Science 8-7 and 8-1: Journal entries, two for this week due Thursday.  As well, textbook worksheets 3.1 will be due on Thursdsay for 8-7, Monday for 8-1.  Electromagnetic Radiation Station Lab will be due on Thursday.  And, expect an electromagnetic radiation quiz soon.
